How to complete a billing

Written by Bradley LaFave

To complete a billing in Siteline, first make sure there is a pay app ready for that billing period. Once the pay app has been created, you can open it and enter billing values based on the project type.

The process is slightly different for lump sum and unit price projects.

How to enter billing values on a lump sum project

Before you can bill for a lump sum project, make sure there is a pay app ready for that month. To do that:

  1. Open the project.

  2. Click Add new pay app to create a pay app for the billing period.

In some cases, your accounting team may already create the pay app for you. If so, you can open it directly from the project home page and begin entering values.

Once you open the pay app, you can enter billing values in the editable fields.

On a lump sum project, the only columns you can update are the columns shown in white. You can enter billing values by:

  • % Complete

  • Completed this month

  • dollar value

  • Stored material

If you enter a value in the Stored material column, you can upload backup for that stored material in the Backup section for that specific line item.

After entering your billing values, follow your team’s internal review process.

Depending on how your team works, you may either:

  • click Share for review and route the pay app through internal review

  • leave a comment to let the person responsible for billing know the pay app is ready to be built

Next step

Once billing values have been entered and reviewed internally, your team can move forward with the rest of the billing process, including submission and any required follow-up.

How to bill for unit price projects

To submit a billing for a unit price project, first make sure there is a pay app ready for that month.

In some cases, your billing team may have already created the pay app for you. If so, you can skip that step and open the pay app directly.

To complete a unit price billing:

  1. Open the project.

  2. Create or open the pay app for the correct billing period.

  3. Click Start billing from the project home page, or open the Invoice tab.

  4. Enter the quantity you want to bill for.

You can enter billing in one of two ways:

  • by quantity

  • by dollar value

For example, you can enter 0.5 units if you want to bill for half a unit.

After entering your billing values, follow your team’s internal review process.

Depending on how your team works, you may either:

  • click Share for review and route the pay app through internal review

  • leave a comment to let your billing team know the pay app is ready to be built
