Siteline + ComputerEase - Setup

One-time setup for the Siteline + ComputerEase integration

Written by Bradley LaFave

Intended audience: technical user. This page covers the one-time installation and configuration of the Siteline Connector, which links Siteline to your ComputerEase data. Day-to-day billing workflows happen in Siteline.

Siteline reads and writes ComputerEase data through the Siteline Connector, a small Windows app that uses ComputerEase's own ODBC driver. Install it on a Windows computer that:

  • has ComputerEase installed, so the ComputerEase ODBC driver is available,

  • can open the ComputerEase company data folder (for example X:\ComputerEase\DATA\12), and

  • stays on at all times. We recommend the server that hosts ComputerEase rather than a user's workstation.

  1. Create a ComputerEase user for Siteline

The connector signs in to ComputerEase with a regular ComputerEase user. We recommend creating a dedicated user (for example siteline) with access to the company you're connecting, so Siteline's activity is easy to tell apart from your team's.

Keep the username and password at hand for the connection step below.

  2. Download the Siteline Connector installer

Sign in to the Windows computer that will run the connector, open your default browser, and download the installer from:

Your browser flagged the installer as not commonly downloaded?

Because the Siteline Connector is a new installer, Microsoft Edge and Chrome may warn that Siteline-Connector-Setup-Latest.exe "isn't commonly downloaded" and prompt you to confirm you trust the file before opening it. This is expected — the installer is signed by Siteline and safe to run.

To help your browser learn to trust Siteline downloads for future users, please report the file as safe:

    1. In the browser's Downloads panel, click the ··· menu next to Siteline-Connector-Setup-Latest.exe.

    2. Select Report this file as safe.

Then keep the file and proceed with the installation.

  3. Switch to Windows Service

After installation, open the Siteline Connector and click Switch to Windows Service. This keeps the connector running even when you're logged out and greatly improves its reliability.

This step requires an administrator account on the Windows computer.

Siteline Connector: Switch to Windows Service button

In the Restart required dialog, click Restart and switch. The connector will relaunch as a Windows Service.

The switch failed with an administrator access error?

If switching fails with a message about administrator access not being granted, the connector couldn't elevate on its own. Fully quit the app and relaunch it as an administrator, then try Switch to Windows Service again.

    1. Quit the connector via File → Exit.

    2. On the desktop, right-click the Siteline Connector icon and choose Run as administrator. Enter administrator credentials if prompted, then switch to Windows Service again.

If it still fails after this, your IT team may need to install it or grant this account administrator rights.

  4. Add a connection

Click Add connection (top right) or Add your first connection (center of the screen) to start configuring the connection to ComputerEase.

  5. Paste the pairing code

Paste the pairing code provided by your Siteline CSM into the Pairing code field, then click Next.

  6. Enter the ComputerEase connection details

    Fill in the connection form:

    • Company — the ComputerEase company to connect. The connector lists the companies set up on this computer, with practice companies listed separately. If none are found, enter the company's data folder instead (for example X:\ComputerEase\DATA\12).

    • ComputerEase user — the user created in the first step (for example siteline)

    • Password — the password for that user

Click Test connection to verify the connector can sign in to ComputerEase. Once the test succeeds, click Add.

  7. Verify all status indicators are green

Once the connection is added, both status indicators (Tunnel and Database) should be green. If either isn't, please send a screenshot of the errors to your Siteline CSM so we can look into it.
